The page uses pdf-lib to draw your text (Helvetica Bold) as a transparent layer on top of each page and save a new file. The original content is not re-rendered or re-compressed: text stays selectable and links keep working. Rotated pages are handled, so the watermark is centered and angled on the page as you see it. The preview is drawn with pdf.js. The standard font covers Western European characters.
A watermark is a label, not protection. It discourages casual sharing and marks drafts clearly, but anyone with a PDF editor can delete text added on top of a page. For documents that must not be altered, also restrict them with a password in your PDF software, or share a flattened image version (see PDF to image and image to PDF).

Can I watermark only some pages? Yes. Type them in "Pages", e.g. 2- to skip the cover.
Is my PDF uploaded? No. Everything runs in JavaScript on this page, so your documents stay on your device.
Why does it say password-protected? Encrypted PDFs can't be changed without the password. Save a copy without the password in your PDF viewer, then try again.
