How to sign

  1. Open the PDF.
  2. Draw your signature in the box, type your name, or upload a photo of your signature on white paper.
  3. Click the spot on the page where it goes. Drag it to adjust, and use Smaller/Larger to size it.
  4. Switch "Click on the page to add" to Today's date or Text to fill in the date or your printed name the same way.
  5. Download. Use the arrows to move between pages, and "Copy to every page" for initials on each page.

How it works

Your signature becomes a transparent PNG, and pdf-lib draws it on top of the page at the exact spot you chose. The rest of the document is not re-rendered: text stays selectable, links keep working, and the file stays about the same size. Rotated pages are handled. The page preview is drawn with pdf.js, and typed signatures use the open-source Dancing Script font.

Is this a legally valid signature?

This adds a simple electronic signature: an image of your signature on the page. Many everyday documents (offer letters, NDAs, rental forms, school and delivery forms) are commonly signed this way, and laws such as the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS regulation accept electronic signatures in general. Some documents need more, such as a certificate-based digital signature, a witness or a notary. This tool does not add a cryptographic certificate, and this is not legal advice: if it matters, check what the other party requires.

Sending documents out for signature from your app?

If you generate contracts, quotes or invoices from HTML, the Shotmint API renders them to PDF in Chromium, so you can put a signature image or a signature line straight into the template:

curl "https://shotmint.creasework.com/v1/pdf?url=https://example.com&format=A4" -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_KEY" -o contract.pdf

Each render is 1 credit. €5 buys 2,000 with no subscription, and credits never expire. Try it without a key on HTML to PDF.

Can I sign on a phone? Yes. Draw with your finger in the box, then tap the page to place the signature.

Can I fill in other fields? If the PDF has fillable fields, use Fill PDF form. Otherwise, use "Text" to type a name, title or initials anywhere on the page. The standard font covers Western European characters.
