favicon.ico holds 16, 32 and 48px images. Put every file in your site's root folder.

Paste this into your <head>

Check it once it's live

After you upload the files, run the free favicon checker on your site. It downloads every declared icon and flags missing or mis-sized ones. While you're there, make sure your link previews look right with the Open Graph checker, or write the tags with the meta tag generator.

Need website screenshots or share images in your app?

Shotmint is a pay-as-you-go API for screenshots, PDFs and Open Graph images: one HTTP call returns a PNG, JPG or PDF. Each render is 1 credit. €5 buys 2,000 with no subscription, and credits never expire.

Which favicon files do I need?

favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48px in one file) in the site root. Every browser finds it, even without a tag, and Google Search uses it too (it wants a multiple of 48px).

apple-touch-icon.png (180×180) is used when someone adds your site to an iPhone or iPad home screen. iOS fills transparent areas with black, so give it a solid background.

icon-192.png and icon-512.png, listed in site.webmanifest, are what Android and Chrome use for the home screen and the install prompt.

SVG favicons are nice for dark mode, but Safari support is patchy. Ship the files above first.

FAQ

My new favicon doesn't show up. Browsers cache favicons hard. Open /favicon.ico directly and reload it, or try a private window. Google Search can take days or weeks to refresh it.

Can I use an emoji? Yes: pick the Emoji font and paste one emoji. It's drawn with your device's emoji font, so it looks slightly different on Windows, macOS and Android.

Is my logo uploaded? No. Everything is drawn on a canvas in your browser, and the files are built locally.
